When asphalt is not properly maintained, water will eventually seep into the sub‐base and cause the pavement to fail. Asphalt reconstruction is the most permanent repair. It is used on severely damaged asphalt surfaces that will continue to cause problems if another method of repair is used. Star Paving Company uses two tried
and true methods:
1. Pulverize and Re‐Pave: Star Paving Company specializes in the pulverization and repaving of the existing asphalt surface. Pulverization grinds the existing pavement, as well as the old base material together to provide RAP (Recycled Asphalt Product). The RAP is then used as the base for the new asphalt surface. The major significance of this process is the recycling aspect and the cost savings since new base material does not need to be purchased. The next step in this type of reconstruction is re‐grading of the sub‐base to ensure proper drainage. The final step to reconstruction is paving over the reworked sub‐base with a new1 1/2” to 6” asphalt layer.
2. Asphalt Overlay: An asphalt overlay is a new section of pavement that is placed over existing asphalt. The new section of pavement is generally 1” to 2” thick. Overlaying existing asphalt with new pavement extends the life cycle of the asphalt by approximately 10 years or more while making the area look brand new. When asphalt is not properly maintained, water will eventually seep into the sub‐base and cause the pavement to fail. Asphalt reconstruction is the most permanent repair. It is used on severely damaged asphalt surfaces that will continue to cause problems if another method of repair is used.
Seal coating is necessary to avoid the inevitable deterioration that awaits untreated asphalt. Without seal coating, the asphalt binder that holds the pavement together immediately begins to oxidize making it brittle and crack. As a result, moisture penetrates the asphalt, causing further damage to the pavement. We at Star Paving Company will help you win the battle against weathering and aging by supplying you with a sealer that replenishes the integral asphalt binder and, ultimately, ensures superior protection.
Patch paving is used when only a section of pavement needs to be replaced. The damaged asphalt is removed via saw cut, graded, compacted and replaced with new asphalt. Cracks are the most deadly problem asphalt pavement will develop. Cracks ¼ inch wide or wider must be sealed to prevent moisture from penetrating the asphalt and to protect and extend the life cycle of the pavement. There are two types of crack sealants available; cold pour crack sealants and hot pour crack sealants. Star Paving Company’s hot pour is a hot rubberized material and is the most cost effective solution. Cracks that are less than ¼ inch wide do not need to be crack filled, however, seal coating these small cracks should be considered because it will help protect the pavement from future oxidizing and weathering.
On July 26, 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) saying these words, “Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down.” One of the most important civil rights law to be enacted since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. (From https://www.ada.gov/pcatoolkit/chap1toolkit.htm) Star Paving Company is fully capable of helping your business become compliant with this act by installing necessary access to your home, business or facility.
